Library History

Until 2002 library service in Riverdale was provided through a library station which was located in various municipal facilities over the years.  The most recent location in a space adjacent to the fire house at 54 Post Lane.

In 2001 a referendum passed to establish a municipal library.  The Borough, assisted by a grant from the State, built a new library which opened on April 1, 2002.

The building has three floors with a total combined area of 8,000 square feet.  The main level houses the adult collection, a reading room and the teen room.  The children’s department is in the lower level, along with a meeting room.  On the third level are movies, and the Local History Room.

The library offers16 computers for public use.  See the computer section for specific information about usage.

As of year end 2007, the library has 27,000 items – a combination of movies, books, magazines, audio books, music CDs, and software.
