The Riverdale Public Library is governed by its Board of Trustees. The Trustees are responsible for setting overall policy and for overseeing the finances of the Library. Specific responsibilities of the Board are: 

• Support the Library in its goal to provide excellent service to the community. The Trustees understand the community and work to ensure that the library meets those needs.

• Establish policies that support the Library in achieving its goals.

• Strive to obtain adequate financial support for the Library.

• Hire a director who will provide professional guidance for the Library.

Each Trustee is appointed by the Mayor of the Borough of Riverdale for a 5-year term. 

The Mayor and the Superintendent of Schools in Riverdale are ex-officio members of the Board of Trustees.

Every January the Board of Trustees elects its officers.  Also in January, the Board determines the date of the meetings for the rest of the year.  The schedule is published in the Suburban Trends and The Star Ledger.

The Board of Trustees usually meets once a month on the second Monday. Meetings are open to the public:
