The Jersey Devil

According to legend, in 1735 the Leeds family lived in a small community at the coastal edge of the Pine Barrens, and Mother Leeds was about to deliver her thirteenth child. Feeling tired and weary of her burden, she cursed the unborn child. She took revenge on Daniel Leeds when she gave birth to the devil’s child, who now lurks in the Pine Barrens of South Jersey. Presented by Angus Kress Gillespie, Ph.D., Professor of American Studies at Rutgers University, and funded by the Horizons Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities.
