Catch the Reading Bug @ the Library

 

 

 

INFANT AND PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

BABY TIME

Infants - 2 years

Mondays, June 23 - August 11

11:00 a.m. - 11:30  a.m.

 

It's baby time at the library. Designed especially for infants and active toddlers, it is a half hour of rhyme, song, movement, and shared reading.

LADYBUG STORIES

Pre-School Story Time

Ages 2-5

Wednesdays,  June 25 - August 13

10:15—11:00 a.m. or 1:30—2:15 p.m.

We've spotted some great stories for you to enjoy. Fly away here to the library for fun. Stories, rhyme, song and crafts are all included in our story time.

 Kindergarten - Fifth Grade

New Program time - Mondays at 7:00 p.m.

June 30 – No Thanks, Fleas

Local resident Michelle Jegge will bring Jean Luc, a standard poodle, who is trained companion animal in the Paws for People Program, from St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Program. Observe dog grooming tips, plus the ABC’s of animal safety. 
 
July 7 – Ants in My Pants and They’re Making
  Me Dance
Crazy ant-ics when we do Dance Dance Revolution at the library, and read about some bad ants. (Don’t miss the ant farm in the Children’s Room)

 

July 14 – Insect Origami
Local resident Liz Harsley will show you how to create origami butterflies and  other insects and animals using special paper and centuries-old patterns.
 

July 21 – Bee a Honey

What’s the buzz? Hear sweet stories, and we’ll taste test different flavors of honey. Craft a bee antennae to take home.
 
July 31  (Thursday night) – Weis Ecology Center Presents the Wildlife of NJ/The Highlands
 
We’re moving up the food chain, to see what eats insects, and what eats those that eat insects. Learn first-hand about New Jersey's wild inhabitants and the special adaptations they have for surviving in our field, forest, and wetland habitats. Meet a live snake, a Box Turtle, and a Raptor (Red-tailed Hawk or Screech Owl).

August 4 –Mystery Scavenger Hunt

Your goal is to find as many bugs (fake) as you can, all hidden in the library! We’ll then paint a pet rock bug to take home.

August 11 – Reading Club Ice Cream Party

Celebrate a summer of reading with ice cream and toppings, and gummy bugs (of course!)
 

Just for 4th and 5th Graders!

We’ll do a craft, talk about some great books to read this summer, and have refreshments.
All programs are from 7:00 – 7:45 p.m.
 
Thursday July 3 – Butterfly Mosaics
After crafting a butterfly mosaic, we’ll make a butterfly sandwich. You will hear about books with characters that change- outside or inside.
 
Thursday July 10 – Bugmallows
Books on the table for tonight – dealing with what bugs you! Eat bugmallows for a snack. Yum!
 
Thursday August 7 – The Good, The Bad and the Bugly
Time for you to give a talk about what you are reading this summer – tell us about the good and not-so-good reads. Enjoy a cup of dirt and worms with bug juice.
 

FAMILY PROGRAM

Stories Under the Stars

Thursday,  July 17 and August 21

7:00—7:30 p.m.

Get sleepy at the library with bedtime stories, cookies and milk.  Younger patrons may want to wear pajamas and bring teddy.
