Library Borrower's Card

Riverdale residents who are at least five (5) years old and can write their name may complete an application.

Proof of residency is required (a valid NJ driver's license, lease or property deed, utility bill delivered by U.S. mail).

Applications from children between 5 and 14 require the signature of a parent or guardian residing in Riverdale.

Lost or damaged cards will be replaced for a $2.00 processing fee.

Borrowing Privileges

Borrowers must present a library card that is valid for use at this library. A card may be used only by the person whose name appears on the card and in the computer record.

A patron's borrowing privileges will be blocked when outstanding fines reach $10.00

Loan Periods

  • Books               4 weeks    .10 per day late

  • New Books       2 weeks    .10 per day late

  • Magazines         4 weeks    .10 per day late

  • Audio Books     4 weeks    .10 per day late

  • Videos/DVDs    1 week     1.00 per day late

Fines may also apply to specifically marked materials. The maximum fine for print materials and audio books is $2.00. The maximum fine for AV is $5.00. Lost or damaged materials are charged at the default replacement rate set by M.A.I.N. plus a $2.00 processing fee. An item is considered lost when it is overdue for 90 days.

LENDING LIMITS

You can renew up to three (3) times as long as no other patron has requested the item. You may renew via on-line,  the telephone or in person.

The library reserves the right to limit the number of books or materials borrowed to two (2) on any one subject. From time to time, it may be necessary to limit loan periods or further limit the number of materials for checkout because they are in unusually high demand.

VIDEO TAPES AND DVDS

Video tapes and DVDs may be borrowed by adults 18 years or older.

In order to assure circulation to the widest number of patrons, a maximum of five (5) video tapes or DVDs may be borrowed at one time.

RETURNS

When the library is open, all items should be returned at the circulation desk inside the library. When the library is closed, many items may be returned in the book drop. Marked items, such as videos and DVDs, should never be placed in the book drop. Fines will apply

"MY ACCOUNT"

Log on to the library catalog from any computer and you can check the status of books or any other materials borrowed on your card. You can also place a hold on an item and renew materials on-line.

In order to login, you need your library card and a PIN. See library staff for details.

RESERVES

You can place a hold on an item if it is currently circulating. Call the library or log into your library account on-line (see above) to place a hold on an item. You will get the next available copy. Note that Riverdale cardholders can put a hold on any circulating item, even if the catalog indicates that it is "non-holdable".

FROM OTHER LIBRARIES . . .

Through the open borrowing system, you can use your Riverdale library card when you visit any one of 150 different libraries in Morris, Passaic and Bergen counties, as well as parts of Middlesex and Somerset counties. Ask for a green sticker on your card to start!

If you need a book that we don't own, we will arrange for the book to be delivered here via interlibrary loan. You can make the request from any computer or in person. Note that the lending library sets the loan period, although any fines are assessed using the Riverdale Public Library schedule.

MEETING ROOMS

Meeting rooms may be used by Riverdale non-profit groups and businesses during scheduled library hours when the space is not being used for library programs.

Groups must fill out an application and comply with the library's policies, fees, rules and insurance requirements regarding meeting rooms. Meeting Room Form
