LOCAL HISTORYBecause of its rich history, Riverdale citizens have a strong bond with this community. The Library understands these ties and has developed a Local History Collection specifically for this reason. We want our patrons to have access to as much local history as is available! In 2004, the Library received a generous donation from the family of the late Dorothea Walker, Borough Historian. The materials the Walker family contributed to our Local History Collection are extraordinary and would amaze even the most committed local historians. Also in 2004, the Library's Local History Collection was evaluated by the New Jersey Historical Commission. The Library received very high marks for maintaining our materials in an acid and pollution free environment. This means that the materials in our collection are being preserved for generations to come. Please come in to view local memorabilia, yearbooks, photographs, scrapbooks and much, much more! Because this collection is being compiled specifically for the citizens of Riverdale, your input and suggestions are appreciated! The Riverdale Public Library is building a collection of historical records and documents such as deeds, newspaper articles, correspondence, family photographs, and genealogies. The majority of the current collection consists of photocopies of original documents. If you have any materials you would like to donate or loan to the collection, please contact us.
